It seems that cycling is not the only area where the government has set itself some targets but isn’t yet doing enough to meet them. In 2009 the Scottish Parliament passed the world’s strongest climate change legislation, setting an example for the rest of the world. Unfortunately, so far we are not on course to meet these targets. Unsurprisingly, one of the areas where carbon emissions actually rose was in transport, reflecting the lack of progress on making cycling an attractive alternative to the car.

Stop Climate Chaos Scotland has organised a mass lobby of parliament to tell them to get their act together on Wednesday the 25th of October and it still needs people to sign up to come along, particularly from beyond Edinburgh and the Central Belt. They will even pay your expenses if you need them to. And if you can’t make it, you can still take part by joining in the planned ‘twitter storm‘: on the day between 12:45 and 2:15, tweet as much as you can using #gyat to show MSPs that more needs to be done on climate change. We’ll certainly be joining in and reminding them that bikes are a huge part of the solution…
